Pearl Picks. Did You Know?
  • Cool-to-Touch Coral Sand: Boracay’s world-famous White Beach sand is composed of finely ground coral rather than silica, which prevents it from retaining heat—allowing guests to walk barefoot along the shoreline even under the blazing midday sun.

  • The 1970s Puka Shell Craze: Decades before White Beach gained international fame, Boracay was globally renowned for its rare Puka shells, which were harvested along the northern shores to craft high-fashion jewelry popularized across Europe and Hollywood.

  • Indigenous Ati Roots: The island’s original inhabitants, the indigenous Ati people, inspired the name Boracay—derived from the local Ati words "Borac" (meaning white cotton) and "Bocay" (meaning white), accurately describing the island's powdery shores.

  • Ancient Maritime Heritage: The iconic Paraw double-outrigger sailboats operating along White Beach rely on a traditional Visayan maritime design over a thousand years old, gliding across the water using purely wind power and skilled hand-steering.

  • World-Renowned Acclaim: Boracay has repeatedly been crowned the "Best Island in the World" by major international travel authorities like Condé Nast Traveler and Travel + Leisure, recognized for having one of the most remarkable natural beach coastlines on the planet.

Travel Tips
  • Arrival & Entry Requirements: Fly directly into Caticlan Airport (MPH) for the shortest boat transfer to the island. Ensure you have a printed or digital copy of your DOT-accredited hotel booking confirmation handy, as port authorities require verification before granting entry to the jetty terminal.

  • Respect Beachfront Ordinances: To preserve the shoreline, smoking, drinking alcoholic beverages, and single-use plastics are strictly prohibited directly on the sand. Enjoy food and beverages at permitted beachfront restaurants, bars, or designated establishment areas just off the beach.

  • Optimal Travel Season: Plan your trip during the Amihan season (November to May) for warm sunshine, calm, glassy seas on White Beach, and ideal water activity conditions.

  • Getting Around Efficiently: Electric tricycles (E-trikes) are the main mode of land transport along the main road. For quick trips along White Beach itself, walking along the pedestrian footpath is often the scenic route.

  • Payment & Cash Recommendations: While credit cards and mobile e-wallets (GCash) are widely accepted in Station 2 and at major resorts, carry sufficient Philippine Pesos (PHP) cash for e-trike fares, small souvenir stalls, and tipping.
